A style already announced in 2018 by New York Magazine. Chubby Design is one of the interior trends that we will see the most in the coming year and which has involved every piece of furniture, from the classic sofa to the world of contemporary carpets. Let’s discover the SITAP Carpet Couture Italia proposals.
Chubby Design is a home design story
A furnishing style, introduced for the first time in the 1940s with the Pelican chair by Finn Juhl, did not happen at the time and was only created sixty years later, in 2001. The Chubby style is enveloping, sinuous and absolutely without corners, which recall minimalism and rationality, values contrary to the world of curves. The official “baptism” of Squishy, round and sinuous furnishings dates back to the 70s with Gaetano Pesce and the 80s with the famous Memphis Movement.
Back to childhood with Curvy style
An art movement in conflict with minimalism and Mies van der Rohe’s quote “less is more” rationality. Chubby is sinuosity and expression of pamper and a tender ug need. An unconscious need for security and motherhood also in response to our historical and social current hard time, caused by the pandemic.
No corners, only curves – Chubby style inspires carpets
“Curvy style proposed by international design also had to be interpreted by carpets, as the absolute protagonists of the most intimate soul of each room. For this reason, I didn’t hesitate even for a moment to do research and propose shaped models, enhanced by full colors and intense, perfect as a warning against rigor and firmness. Today we need escape”. Comment Barbara Trombatore – CEO & Creative Director SITAP. The Pop line of rugs is the contemporary response to these new values, in line with the latest international trends and always in step with a high quality artisan tradition.
Beyond classic rectangle shape, carpet is increasingly a fluid concept
Interior fluidity is a based part of last two-year 2020 and 2021 time, today is even more linked to carpet element, transforming its initial form. Rugs become a real expression of imaginary and real shapes, totally detached from classic rectangular shapes, typical of this complement.
